3rd Grade visits Historic Allaire Village

For their class trip, the third grade visited historic Allaire Village in New Jersey.

The children were told how the students in 1836 had to line up before entering school...girls on one side and boys on the other...
Then the children had to face one another and the boys bowed and the girls curtsied...the reaction from the girls is priceless!
This original building served as a schoolhouse, chapel and town meeting hall.
The students were surprised to learn how children didn’t have to attend school back then in New Jersey, but in the Allaire Village, all children went to school until age 12, even the girls, who usually did not attend school during this time.
